Der Baader Meinhof Komplex

Peter Hinderthür, Florian Tessloff

The story of Germany’s notorious Baader-Meinhof Gang (aka Red Army Faction)– the leftist terrorist organization that terrorized German society from the late 1960s into the 1970s – is dramatized by director Uli Edel and writer/producer Bernd Eichinger in this Oscar-nominated adaptation of Stefan Aust’s bestselling 1985 nonfiction book.

Rather than aim for a musical evocation of the period, composers Peter Hinderthür and Florian Tessloff have crafted a score more in the vein of American big-budget action films, closer in style to the hard-driving orchestral action and suspense scores of composers like Jerry Goldsmith, Basil Pouledouris and, more recently, Hans Zimmer. Heavily percussive with nervous strings and muscular horns, it bridges the gap between then and now, suggesting that the events of the ‘60s and ‘70s may be more timely than ever.
