Johan Söderqvist

Directed by Bettina Oberli, this 2009 German-language adaptation of novelist Andrea Maria Schenkel’s 2006 crime thriller methodically pieces together events leading up to the brutal murder of an entire family on a rural farm.

Swedish composer Johan Söderqvist first captured international attention with his eerie, chilling score for director Tomas Alfredson’s
Let the Right One In as well as his collaborations with Danish director Susanne Bier on such acclaimed dramas as Things We Lost in the Fire, the Oscar-nominated After the Wedding and the Oscar-winning In a Better World. Adept at capturing a wide range of exotic moods with creative and unusual instrumentation, Söderqvist here compliments the mysterious, chilling story of an unspeakable crime with a wildly divergent collection of cues appropriate to the film’s unsettled quest for truth: rich, romantic tracks like "Tannoed II," "Betrayal II" and "Dream"; the eerie, haunting evocations "Slaughter" and "Letters"; the dark, medieval intonations of "First Prayer," "Second Prayer" and the choral arrangements "Evil Libera" and "Libera Me."
