The Oranges

Klaus Badelt, Andrew Raiher

The seemingly incorruptible New Jersey suburbanite bond between the Ostroffs (Oliver Platt and Allison Janney) and the Wallings (Hugh Laurie and Catherine Keener) is put to the test when long-absent daughter Nina Ostroff (Leighton Meester) returns for Thanksgiving with some scandalous plans in this darkly comedic 2012 effort from director Julian Farino.

In an uncharacteristic departure from their collaborations with Hans Zimmer, former Zimmer acolytes Klaus Badelt (
Pirates of the Caribbean) and Andrew Raiher lean on an acoustic rock- and folk-infused collection of cues clearly designed to evoke the work of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkl on Mike Nichols’ thematically similar 1967 classic The Graduate. The easy blend of folk instrumentation, acoustic guitar and gentle vocals in tracks like "Coffee Reunion End" and "Christmas Miracle" achieve a similarly timeless feat – simultaneously underlining the story’s seriousness without letting audiences imagine that they ought take any of it too seriously.
