Harlem Hostel

Rosino Serrano

An urban comedy in the vein of Friday, writer/director Nestor Miranda’s film follows the entrepreneurial antics of a group of friends from Queens as they attempt to turn an abandoned Harlem brownstone into a youth hostel.

Best known for his score for the acclaimed Mexican film The Crime of Father Amaro, Spanish-born Rosino Serrano dips into a more decidedly American well here, albeit with an appropriate dollop of other hemispheric influences. Like Harlem itself, Serrano’s score pays tribute to classic New York rock-funk as well as present-day hip hop with detours into reggae ("Rick’s Arrival and Rick’s Letter"), Mexican Mariachi ("Will’s Mosaic") and the self-explanatory ("Ice Cream Scene").
