Moi, Michel G., milliardaire, maître du monde

Arnaud Gauthier

Such a pretentious, alliterative title was fitting for this 2011 mockumentary, about a pretentious billionaire, that satirized capitalistic excess.

The soundtrack begins with several tongue-in-cheek songs, ranging from hard rock (“Indaface”) to pop (“My Friends”) to bossa nova (“Deborah’s Bossa Lounge”), all sung in English. The score maintains the rock attitude, mocking Michel G’s self-perception as a rock star with wailing electric guitar and drums (“Introducing Michel G,” “White Collar Hero”). Saxophone, xylophone, jangling coins, and sarcastic, non-verbal vocals breathe fun and self-awareness into the self-important proceedings, which are sweetly closed with a gentle piano motif (“Goodbye Michel”).
