Mio fratello e' figlio unico

Franco Piersanti

Working from the novel by Antonio Pennacchi, writer-director Daniele Luchetti tells the story of two working-class brothers growing up in post-war Italy, chasing girls, involving themselves in the absurdities of extremist politics (on opposite sides), and fighting each other.

Working mainly from a single primary theme, award-winning composer Franco Piersanti paints a melancholy portrait of a country in political flux. Driven by a rather pastoral accordion, the main theme is both somber and reflective, illuminating the melancholy of discovery and maturity. The composer occasionally sidesteps his main theme to explore jazzy riffs played with strings and discordance. These playful interludes offer a welcome contrast to the overall seriousness of the score.
