Resident Evil: Retribution

Tomandandy

In the fifth installment of the long-running video game-based post-apocalyptic action series, the Umbrella Corporation’s T-virus has finally canvassed the whole earth, forcing Milla Jovovich’s Alice and her allies to undertake a globe-traveling quest to track down those responsible for pushing mankind to the brink.

In their second effort for the franchise, composing duo tomandandy – aka Andy Milburn and Thomas Hajdu – expand and elaborate on their approach with the previous installment, “Resident Evil: Afterlife.” building on the series’ pulsating electronic action cues with added orchestral elements and a broad range of international influences to underline the new film’s broader, more epic concerns and higher stakes. Where "First Blood " is shaded by Middle Eastern influences, "Tokyo Revisited " veers toward Asian-accented techno-punk while "End of the World" strains for an electronic variation on the classical film score anthem. With the exception of the low-droning mood track "Imprinted, " however, most of the tracks still adhere to the franchise’s popular adrenaline-pumping video game intonations: most notably "Corridor," "Phantom Chase" and the appropriately named "Zombies Under Ice."
