Aaron Zigman

Oscar-nominee Terrence Howard stars in this moving 2007 biopic about Philadelphia swim coach James Ellis who, in 1974 and against all odds, rehabilitated a dilapidated recreation center by creating the city’s first all-black swim team.

Tackling the film’s rich emotional tapestry and keenly observed period setting in much the same fashion as he did “Akeelah and the Bee,” composer Aaron Zigman here forges a savvy balance between traditional orchestral film music and period-specific ‘70s era R&B, highlighted by an unmistakable Curtis Mayfield influence on
Jim Looks for Work. Traditional South African folk vocal even makes an appearance on "Listen to Your Biceps" and "Choir of Piano" while tracks like "God Bless this Space," "The Meet" and "Pride, Determination, Reliance" pay noble homage to the reverential tenor of such classic sports films as The Natural and Hoosiers.
