In director Luca Lucini’s 2009 comedy the chaos of love and the lunacy surrounding its ceremonial consummation is explored in four very different but equally frustrating weddings.
To effectively capture the mirth and madness of the film’s unorthodox look at weddings and marriage, composers Giuliano Taviani (son of filmmaker Vittorio Taviani) and Carmelo Travia craft a score that moves steadily from the sublime to the ridiculous, segueing from earnest, romantic piano and string arrangements to retro-lounge and even gypsy folk music. Trumpet, saxophone, string base, accordion and sitar all get their due in this wild, woolly accompaniment to the wildest and wooliest obsession of all -- love.
